Cryptography

Symmetric vs asymmetric cryptography: which should you use where?

Answer:

Use symmetric cryptography (the same key for encryption and decryption) for fast, bulk data encryption, such as internal data at rest or large files. Use asymmetric cryptography (public-private key pairs) for secure communications, key exchange, and authentication, such as in SSL/TLS handshakes or secure emails.
