How are neural networks different from traditional machine learning algorithms?

Neural networks are different because they can learn from raw data without much human selection of features. Classic machine learning often relies on people to choose important attributes by hand, but neural networks use layers and weights to automatically extract patterns, working well with raw data like pictures and text.
