Flutter uses Dart, a language Google first released in 2011 that became Flutter's primary language in 2017. Dart compiles ahead of time to native ARM64 and x64 machine code for release builds, and runs on a JIT compiler with hot reload during development. The current stable release is Dart 3.12, shipped alongside Flutter 3.44 in 2026.
