Because Flutter paints every pixel itself instead of wrapping native platform widgets, the UI looks and behaves the same on every device, which matters for teams that don't want to maintain separate design implementations per platform. It has no built-in physics engine or 3D renderer, so games and AR/VR work sit outside what it's designed for.

In practice, almost nobody picks between Unity and Flutter for the same product. The overlap is narrow: a team weighing whether to build a lightweight mobile game as an actual game with Unity, or as an app-like experience with simple 2D graphics and no physics using Flutter, sometimes paired with a package like Flame. Outside that edge case, the choice comes down to whether the project needs a game engine or a cross-platform app framework, and that answer usually points to one tool, not two competing ones.
